Spondylolisthesis is a slipping of vertebra that occurs, in most cases, at the base of the spine, due to a defect or fracture of one or both wing-shaped parts of a vertebra. This defect, called spondylolysis, can result in vertebrae slipping backward, forward or over a bone below.
Spinal stenosis is the narrowing of openings in the spinal bones, usually in the lumbar area, which creates pressure on the spinal cord and/or nerves. About 75% of cases of spinal stenosis occur in the low back (lumbar spine).
Sciatica is a sharp, often shooting pain, sometimes accompanied by tingling or numbness, that extends from the buttocks down the back of one leg. Sciatica may feel like a mild ache, a sharp, burning sensation or cause extreme discomfort.
