Akim Nyormoi
Hand Therapist
Biography:
Akim Nyormoi, MS, OTR/L
LOCATION: SPT-Canyon Park/Bothell
I’m a holistic orthopedic occupational therapist with a background in bodywork, specializing in structural integration and movement therapy to support whole-body healing. My approach blends clinical knowledge with hands-on skill, integrating the fascia, joints, and neuromuscular systems to improve alignment, ease tension, and restore functional movement.
I work with individuals facing complex orthopedic and neurological conditions, chronic pain, joint hypermobility, and post-surgical recovery. My treatment is guided by the biotensegrity model and the understanding that the body functions as an interconnected system. Each session is shaped by close observation of movement, breath, and tension patterns, with a focus on improving balance, coordination, and functional resilience through structural bodywork, neuromuscular re-education, and movement retraining.
My foundation in upper extremity rehabilitation, including over nine years of experience in hand therapy and custom orthoses, adds depth to my whole-body approach. Understanding how localized dysfunction affects the broader system allows me to connect fine motor recovery with postural, fascial, and functional patterns throughout the body.
I also support individuals recovering from healthcare-related trauma. I use trauma-informed care and somatic approaches to help restore a sense of safety, rebuild trust in movement, and support regulation through the nervous system. This work emphasizes clarity, connection, and listening to the body in a way that promotes real change.
My roots are in Houston, and I’ve lived in a variety of places that continue to shape how I work and connect with people. These include the Big Island of Hawaii, southern Oregon, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Louisville, Kentucky. During my time in Hawaii, I found a deep love for the outdoors and a sense of grounding that has stayed with me ever since. The quiet pace of life on the Big Island taught me the value of presence, simplicity, and moving through the world with intention. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, and spending time with my family on the trail or by the water. I also love good music, movie nights, and cooking when I get the chance.
